In the past 12 months we have dedicated several blog posts to the topic of tariffs and the benefits of US-based packaging from a cost standpoint to avoid hefty fees associated with importing. The country currently awaits a supreme court decision related to tariffs, but the need to produce packaging domestically goes beyond tariff avoidance and simple bottom-line dollars and cents.
Control Your Communication
Communication is an often overlooked aspect of selecting a packaging supplier. Consider that any overseas packaging company you work with will be in a much different time zone than you and your business. This will create a natural delay in your communication with them, as you may be sending URGENT emails that may not even be read for 6, 8 or 10 or more hours. Then their reply to you might be sent while you are asleep. This is a very real benefit of working with a domestic supplier, as you can get instant responses to any questions, requests or concerns you have. In fact, we have been known to respond to emails even on weekends or after normal operating hours. Sometimes unexpected surprises happen that require packaging pivots, last minute changes or redirections. We are always a phone call or email away and specialize in being able to address your needs quickly.
Control Your Quality Standards
It is very difficult to have quality control if you can’t control any aspect of your pre-production process. If you are working with an overseas supplier, you are literally an ocean away from being able to see, touch, and test the packaging product you are ordering. As a domestic supplier, we are able to easily send you (and we insist on doing so) physical samples, proofs, ink swatches. In some cases we can even help assist with ship and drop testing. For projects where several rounds of structural design revisions are needed, we can do them without delay and expedite samples to you in as little as one day if needed. We offer flexibility and can work within your timeframe. We are no strangers to rush orders/projects and thrive on being able to help you meet your goals and deadlines. In an industry where a fraction of an inch makes a world of difference, DON’T leave your packaging quality up to chance and guesswork.
Control Your Shipping and Logistics
Not only is this important for first-time orders, but it can be crucial for reruns when you have unexpected sales spikes and needs for emergency rush orders that simply cannot be accommodated by overseas suppliers. By volume, at least one quarter of every order we receive can be labeled a “rush order” that the customer needs sooner than anticipated. What we provide are firm answers and specific production dates so that you can rely on the information you’re given. If we say we will produce something in two weeks, you can count on it, and you will not have to fear the many potential problems that can arise when sending something across the globe and not knowing when it will arrive. We have an extensive lineup of freight brokers we work with to offer expedited shipping when needed. Last month we were able to meet a customer’s deadline by setting them up with a team driver shipment that was able to drive for 24 hours straight, delivering by their needed date. Having predictable lead times and transit times allows you to have full control over your inventory and storage and prevents you from being in nightmare situations with no packaging to fulfill your orders.
